Why Rukia Bankai Matters After Ice Princess
The July 20, 2026 Ice Princess Update added Rukia's Blade and its Bankai V Skill — the first Mythical weapon progression track from Vox's House after Rebirth. Unlike promo codes that inject Ice Shards instantly, Bankai requires boss loops, Hollow farming, and Freezing Shards that only drop from the Rukia Bankai boss on Throne Island. This guide walks blade unlock first, then Bankai objectives in the order the quest UI expects. Confusing Ice Shards (quest spawns and codes) with Freezing Shards (boss-only Bankai material) is the most common stall — see the materials guide for both items.
Starting the Quest in Soul Society
Travel to Hueco Mundo and enter the portal to Soul Society. Speak with the Rukia Week NPC near the hub — the interaction starts the blade chain even if the model is not a full Rukia avatar on your patch. Use our island map if you are still routing through Whispering Jungle or Sandora on a fresh Rebirth account.
Early objectives typically include earning a Soul Reaper Badge from the Aizen boss, collecting Ice Shards from spawn nodes or the RukiaAwakens! code, defeating Hollow quotas, and clearing Weak Rukia with Zangetsu equipped. Finish each tracker before moving to Ice Queen — skipping steps leaves Bankai counters locked.

Bankai Objectives With Ice Queen
After Rukia's Blade is yours, return to Soul Society and talk to the Ice Queen NPC. She opens the V Skill track with four stacked requirements: consume 100 Ice items, defeat Aizen 25 times while Rukia's Blade is equipped, activate Rukia skills 250 times, and collect Freezing Shards from the Rukia Bankai boss.
Buy or craft Ice from Mohawk on Glacier Isle for the consumption step — this is the fastest objective if you already unlocked Haki per the Haki guide. Only Aizen kills with the blade equipped count toward 25; swap weapons back after the counter completes. Spam Rukia abilities during normal farming to reach 250 without a separate AFK session.

Farming Freezing Shards on Throne Island
Freezing Shards do not drop from overworld nodes or codes — only the Rukia Bankai boss at Throne Island's altar after the quest unlocks that step. Summon, defeat, repeat until your inventory meets the quest quota. Drop rates are RNG; budget multiple runs and clear bag space before long sessions.
